Observations/Finding

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made during our evaluation:

This report provides a reassessment of the footing excavations for Lot #3, Lot #4, and Lot #53, The assessment includes excavation dimensions, depth, cleanliness, and the results of soil testing using a hand auger, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (ASTM STP-399), and general probing tests.

The reinforcing steel was checked for correct size, number of bars, location of bars, spacing, cleanliness, support against displacement, splicing, clearance and steel grade.  Reinforcing steel appeared to meet job specifications for size, spacing and quantity.

The footing excavations were noted to be in general accordance with the project drawings with respect to size and depth.

Additionally, it was observed that the footing excavations were generally free of loose soil, debris, and water.

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (ASTM STP-399) results at the test locations displayed soils capable of supporting a net allowable bearing pressure of 2000 psf.

General probing using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod found surficial soils in the base of the footing to be suitable for concrete placement.

Note: 1 side footing in lot#60 was soft contractor was recommended undercut 1 foot replaced it 57 stone or suitable material, location shown by yellow line,

  • Footing subgrade conditions should remain dry and free of loose soils/debris prior to concrete placement. If exposed to inclement weather, the foundation subgrade should be re-observed by ASEC,
