Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Upon arrival at the site, backfilling activities were underway for the sanitation sewer. Contractors used CAT Excavators 336 and 315F and heavy-duty dump trucks. Backfilling was performed in 2-foot lifts between manholes 4.9 and 4.10. Contractor added No. 57 stone to 6 inches above the pipe. A walk behind roller was then used for compaction.
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities:
- Backfilling was in progress for the sanitation sewer, utilizing 2-foot lifts between manholes 4.8 and 4.9.
- Compaction Status:
- Compaction was not carried out on the west side of AE1, with the foreman indicating it as a temporary measure.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned, with considerations for lift sizes and temporary measures discussed with the foreman.
