Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes and material submittals.

The following observations were observed on the site this day:

• Placement and construction of box culverts adjacent to the detention pond was in progress.
  • Four (4) subgrade areas were found to exhibit soft soils.  We recommend the undercutting of three (3) feet of these soils and backfill with rock.  The four areas were measured to be approximately 12 feet by 8 feet, 28 feet by 16 feet, 33 feet by 16 feet and 8 feet by 16 feet.  These areas were undercut to stable soils and backfilled with type III rip-rap.  Following backfilling of the undercut area, the culvert footprint was completed with the placing of 18 inches of No. 57 stone.
• Placement and installation of storm water manholes STP1 and STP2 at the construction entrance to the permanent detention pond was in progress.
• At the time of arrival our representative observed that the work was in progress at the construction entrance with 1-foot lifts being placed and compacted using CP54B and D51PX equipment.
• Density test results indicate that the compacted material met the project requirements of 95% of the maximum dry density obtained by a Standard Proctor ASTM 698.
