Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our representative observed the contractor place backfill using a CAT 336 and CAT 3151 to excavate 177 feet of trench. Contractor then placed an 8-inch sanitary sewer line between MH 9.0-10.0. A CAT 938K loader was used to bring No. 57 stone. No. 57 stone was placed to 6 inches above the pipe. Also, contractor backfilled with soil and compacted with walk behind roller and aa 54-inch drum roller.
Our representative observed the contractors place an 18-inch RCP storm drain, 24 ft length pipe between MH AH 13-AH 14 using a 3651 excavator to dig trench, lay pipe and place backfill. Contractor compacted trench with walk behind roller.
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities:
- Backfilling was in progress for the sanitation sewer, and storm drain.
- Sewer Installation:
- Sewer main was placed between MH 9.0-10.0 and AH13-AH14.
- Compaction Status:
- Compaction was carried out, using a walk behind roller and 54-inch drum roller.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned, with considerations for lift sizes and temporary measures discussed with the foreman.
