Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made during our evaluation:
Site Arrival and Initial Conditions:
Upon arrival at the site, a rain delay was in effect for 2 hours. This delay affected the initial planned activities.
Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) Placement:
- The GAB was placed until completion, ending at the Cul-de-sac.
- The future roadway was compacted using a Hamm smooth drum roller HD14 to seal the surface.
- The GAB placed was not ready for testing at this time.
Future Activities and Equipment:
- The paving company foreman stated that a large smooth drum roller would be delivered next week to provide compaction.
- Compaction testing will need to be completed once the large smooth drum roller is available.
Observations:
- The delay due to rain was managed effectively.
- The compaction process with the HD14 roller was observed, but further compaction and testing are pending.
- Coordination with the paving company is ongoing to ensure timely delivery of necessary equipment.
Recommendations:
- Monitor the delivery and usage of the large smooth drum roller.
- Schedule and conduct compaction testing as soon as the GAB is ready to ensure compliance with project specifications
