Observations/Finding

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made during our evaluation:

Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) Placement Report

After completing a proof-roll on a previous day, approximately 450 linear feet of graded aggregate base (GAB) was placed on the future roadway. Information provided by the paving company indicated that the GAB originated from Ball Ground, GA (970 Old Nelson Rd). According to GDOT specifications, the moisture-density relationship for this GAB is 149.0 maximum dry density and 4.8% optimum moisture content, with 100% compaction required for this project.

A Bobcat T76 was used for placement, and a Hamm HD14 smooth drum roller (small) was used for compaction. Testing was not ready on this day, and no testing was completed.
