At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our representative observed the contractor use a CAT 336 Excavator and Komatsu PC490 LC to excavate a sewer trench from MH 8.7-8.9. After the sewer trench was excavated, the contractor then placed a 21 ft long storm drain. Contractors used CAT 938k loader to transport No. 57 stone and GAB. No. 57 stone was placed up to 6 inches above storm drain. This area was then compacted (MH 8.7-8.9) with a walk behind roller.
The ASEC Engineering representative observed contractors use CAT 3364 excavator to dig sewer trench from manholes 6.8-6.9. After sewer trench was dug, Contractors then used the CAT 3364 to place sewer laters . Contractors used CAT 938k loader to transport 57 stone and GAB. The Contractors added the 57 stone 6 inches under and above storm drain. Then Added Gab and soil from man hole 6.8-6.9, compacted with walk behind roller.
Contractor use a CAT 315F to excavate sewer trench from MH 4.6-5.0. After manholes were dug, sewer laterals were placed followed by No. 57 stone to 6 inches above the pipe. GAB with backfill was added from MH 4.6-5.0 and compacted with a walk-behind roller.
Storm drain was also placed between MH Ae.4-Ae.5. Contractor used a CAT 938K loader to transport No. 57 stone and GAB. No. 57 stone was added to 6 inches above storm drain. GAB and backfill was added from MH 6.8-6.9 and compacted with a walk behind roller.
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities: Contractors placed backfill in sewer laterals and storm trenches. Also Added 6 inches of No. 57 stone, then GAB.
- Storm Drainpipe Installation: Contractors inserted sewer laterals, and storm drains.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned.
