Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our representative observed the contractor place backfill using a CAT 315F excavator. A sewer trench was excavated from MH 9.1-9.3. Contractors added No. 57 stone to 6 inches above pipe. Then contractor added sewer laterals and GAB from MH 9.1-9.3 and compacted with a walk-behind roller.
Our representative observed contractor use a PC 490 excavator to dig and place storm pipe AT2. Contractor used a PC 490 to excavate a 150ft sewer trench from MH 6.7-6.8. After the trench was dug, the contractors then placed No. 57 stone followed by Gab near surface. Gab was compacted with a walk-behind roller
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities: Contractors placed backfill in sewer laterals and storm trenches. Also Added 6 inches of No. 57 stone, then a GAB.
- Storm Drainpipe Installation: Contractors inserted 351F sewer lateral and storm drains.
- Compaction Status: Compaction above all laterals were sufficient
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned.
