Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
- The placement and compaction of backfill for Lot #7, Lot #8, Lot #9 and a reinforcing steel inspection for the footing of retaining wall “B”, continued this day.
- At the time of arrival, our representative observed that work was in progress with 1-foot lifts being placed and compacted using a 15-ton sheeps-foot (CP54B) compactor. Compaction testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge, along with general probing using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod.
- Density test results indicate that the compacted materials did not meet the project requirement of 95% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698),
- The reinforcing steel was observed for correct size, spacing and quantity. Based on observation and field measuring, the reinforcing steel at the above-mentioned retaining wall B, footing appeared to be placed according to shop/field-use drawing, C18.3 dated 12/10/2021 with the exception of:
1) reinforcing bottom and top bars were not in place at locations of between STA 1+15.88 and STA 1+44.34.
2) reinforcing vertical bars for wall were not in place locations of STA 0+ 45.06.
The contractor was notified of the above mentioned items. Omitted reinforcing steel was not placed on today’s date. The undersigned recommended the omitted reinforcing steel to be completed prior to the placement of concrete.
