Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our representative observed the contractors place backfill. Contractors used an excavator place soil via a heavy-duty dump truck transporting soil to the entrance way. Contractors then used a compactor to place and compact soil in 6-inch lifts. Our representative then used a 3/8″ diameter probe rod to check stability.
The ASEC Engineering representative also observed the contractor fill storm trench pipe bedding with #57 stone.
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities:
- Backfilling was in progress for the storm trench, with #57 stone.
- Compaction Status:
- Compaction in the entranceway was stable.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned, with considerations for lift sizes and temporary measures discussed with the foreman.
