Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Introduction:

This report provides details on the installation of a burrito wrap and subsequent compaction assessments conducted in Lots #57-61 and Section 2 of the project.

Burrito Wrap Installation:

  • As per discussions with all relevant parties, including ASEC, the grading company, and stakeholders, a 1 foot by 1 foot “burrito” (drainage) wrap was installed on the north side of the existing detention pond. The burrito wrap runs parallel from east to west.
  • Due to future sewer line considerations, the proposed burrito wrap needed to be relocated approximately 5 feet to the south. The excavation was carried out using a Bobcat E55 Mini-Excavator. Continuous water intrusion required the use of a pump to remove water during the excavation process.

Compaction Assessment – Lots 57-61:

  • Soil compaction was conducted in Lots #57-61 using a Caterpillar CP54 ride-on vibratory sheep’s foot.
  • A proof roll was performed in this area, revealing a high level of pumping and rutting, requiring remedial efforts.
  • Recommendations were made for scarification, aeration, and re-compaction to address the observed issues.

Compaction Assessment – Section 2:

  • Section 2 of the project, covering an approximate area of 115 feet by 125 feet, underwent a proof-roll assessment.
  • An area measuring approximately 90 feet by 100 feet exhibited pumping during the proof-roll, indicating non-stable conditions.
  • Similar to Lots #57-61, recommendations for scarification, aeration, and re-compaction were provided to address the observed deficiencies.

Conclusion:

The installation of the burrito wrap and subsequent compaction assessments revealed challenges in achieving satisfactory compaction levels in both Lots #57-61 and Section 2. Recommendations for scarification, aeration, and re-compaction have been provided to rectify the identified issues.

No further observations were made during the assessment.
