Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our ASEC representative observed the contractors place backfill. Contractors used an excavator to place soil via heavy-duty dump trucks transported to the entrance way. Contractors then placed and compacted fill in 6-inch lifts. The lifts were probed using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod.
Our representative also observed the contractor place 2 feet of #57 stone in a 12-foot storm trench. Dynamic cone penetration tests were performed on Lots #34 & 33. See separate report from this date.
Our ASEC representative also checked compaction on the roadway in front of Lots #36 through 33.
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities:
- Backfilling was in progress for the storm trench, utilizing 2-feet of #57 stone
- Discussions were conducted with the foreman regarding the placement of backfill over #57 stone. Contractors chose another day in the future to do so.
- Compaction Status:
- Compaction in the entranceway and roadway in front of Lots #36 through 33 was found satisfactory.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned, with considerations for lift sizes and temporary measures discussed with the foreman.
