Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Location: Sterlington Entrance, ST. 1+25 to ST. 2+00.
Summary: Upon arrival at the site, compaction operations were underway at the entrance of Sterlington from ST. 1+25 to 2+00, extending to a depth of minus 13 feet from the surface, including the section beneath the future road entrance. The existing lift (completed previous day) was not observed. An established moisture-density relationship (94.8 Dry density and 25% moisture) was utilized for compaction efforts. Multiple tests were conducted using a Troxler 3430 (Serial #30942) to evaluate compaction levels and moisture content.
Key Events:
- Initial Tests:
- Test #1 yielded a Dry Density (DD) of 94.9 and Moisture (M) content of 12.3%, meeting the compaction requirements.
- 12 inches of soil was added in the section and compacted with a ride-on vibratory sheeps-foot roller.
- Test #2 conducted at minus 12 feet from the surface resulted in a DD of 85.2 and M of 18.9%.
- A loaded off-road dump truck was utilized to compact the surface area.
- Additional Lifts:
- Test #3 following the addition of 12 inches of soil showed a DD of 100.3 and M of 14%, indicating improved compaction. The soil composition appeared to be sandier than soils previously tested.
- All testing completed were meet soil compaction requirements.
- Subsequent lifts demonstrated varying degrees of compaction and moisture contents.
- Observations and Conclusion:
- No further observations were recorded for the day, suggesting that compaction efforts were successfully carried out to meet project requirements.
