Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative, Amin Azimi visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
- observed the subcontractor (Atlanta Paving) milling asphalt for the Taxiway phase 7.
- observed the contractor (Kelly/Cheoah) begin excavating from existing manhole Ex-1 for installation of 30″ RCP running from west to east across the Taxiway. The subcontractor used a CAT 76F excavator to excavate material to haul offsite in off-road dump trucks before placing the trench box. Once the trench was deep enough. the subcontractor noticed that the existing pipe was 24″ RCP instead of 30″ RCP. The subcontractor had ABC contracting onsite to core the existing manhole 30″RCP into the existing manhole as per the plan. The subcontractor then reached the grade of the pipe. The subcontractor placed approximately 1-foot of No. 89 stone for pipe bedding.
- observed the crew from Kelly/Cheoah stripping topsoil to haul offsite in off-road dump trucks from the east face of the Taxiway. After the topsoil was removed, the contractor graded for the proposed taxiway on the east using a CAT bulldozer to cut the material down to subgrade and a CAT 76F excavator to place the stockpile of material cut in the area of the asphalt.
In case of any questions or concerns with regards to our observations or recommendations stated in this report we will be more than glad to discuss them with
