Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Location: Headwall BA1 site
Description of Activity: An attempt was made to excavate at the designated location for Headwall BA1. However, upon excavation, it was discovered that rock was present at the site, hindering the placement of the headwall.
Actions Taken:
- Excavation Attempt:
- An excavation was initiated at the designated site for Headwall BA1.
- During the excavation process, it became apparent that rock was obstructing the intended placement area.
- Utilization of Equipment:
- In response to the encountered obstacle, a Hoe-ram was deployed in conjunction with an excavator.
- The Hoe-ram was used to break and remove the rock hindering the placement of Headwall BA1.
- Outcome:
- Despite efforts to remove the obstructing rock, Headwall BA1 could not be successfully placed on the designated day.
- No further progress was made due to the encountered difficulties.
Next Steps:
- Assessment and Planning:
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the site to determine the extent of the rock obstruction and plan the next steps accordingly.
- Equipment and Resource Allocation:
- Evaluate the need for additional equipment or resources to effectively address the rock hindrance.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to communicate the encountered challenge and discuss potential solutions.
Conclusion: The attempted excavation at the Headwall BA1 site was impeded by the presence of rock, necessitating the use of specialized equipment for removal. Despite efforts, the headwall could not be placed as planned, resulting in a halt in progress. Moving forward, a comprehensive evaluation and strategic planning will be essential to overcome the encountered obstacle and resume project activities.
