Observations/Finding

  1. Introduction: A site visit was conducted by a representative from AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) to provide quality control inspection and testing services for the Lakeside project located Sterlington in Canton. The purpose of the visit was to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals using visual observation techniques.
  2. Site Visit Details:
    • Location: Sterlington, Canton
    • Equipment Present: CP54B sheeps-foot vibratory compactor
    • Testing Equipment: Troxler 3430 (Serial #30942)
  3. Observations: During the site visit, the following observations were made:
    • Equipment Activity: Upon arrival, a CP54B sheeps-foot vibratory compactor was observed finishing the last lift located at the center of the road at station 9.00+50.
    • Density-Moisture Ratio(proctor) and Testing: An optimum proctor was 94.8 dry density and 25% moisture content was referenced.  Two tests were conducted using a Troxler 3430:
      1. Test 1: Dry Density (DD) of 94.0 and moisture content of 21%
      2. Test 2: Dry Density (DD) of 93.6 and moisture content of 21% – Both tests resulted in a 99% compaction.
    • Proof-roll Requirement: It was noted that a proof-roll will need to be completed before asphalt paving can proceed.
    • Further Testing: No further testing was completed during the site visit.
  4. Recommendations: Based on the observations, the following recommendations are made:
    • Schedule proof-roll: Coordinate with the project team to schedule a proof-roll to verify the compaction meets project requirements before proceeding with asphalt paving.
    • Continuous Monitoring: maintain continuous observation of compaction activities to verify compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
    • Documentation: Verify all testing results and observations are accurately documented for future reference and quality assurance purposes.
  5. Conclusion: The site visit confirmed the completion of the final lift using a CP4B sheeps-foot vibratory compactor. However, a proof-roll should be performed on the subgrade before proceeding with base course and asphalt paving.

This report summarizes the observations made during the site visit and outlines recommendations for verifying compliance and quality assurance in the Lakeside project.
