Observations/Finding

On September 28, 2023, at the request of Wilbanks contractors, the assigned ASEC representative was on site at the Northfields Project to evaluate rutting in the soils located on a street in the southwest portion near the detention pond area. The section of interest is delineated on reference sheet C-603A, section J9.

Our representative observed that rutting was only present on one half of the road. This area has been shown on the accompanying drawing. The dimensions of the affected stretch measured approximately 200 feet in length and 5 feet in width.

Upon investigation, in certain sectors, the probing depth exceeded 12 inches, with rut depths gauged at about 6 inches.

RECOMMENDED REMEDIATION:

1. Remove the topmost 12 to 15 inches of soil from the affected area.
2. Ensure thorough compaction of the subgrade using a trench roller.
3. Lay non-woven fabric atop the compacted subgrade as a separator and stabilizer (to be done the following day).
4. Position a layer of #57 stone over the fabric to provide stability and ensure proper drainage.
5. Cap the stone layer with Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) to finalize the repair and prep the site for subsequent construction or paving.
