Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, our AS Engineering & Consulting, Inc. representative was on site to visually inspect the rebar placement for the elevator shaft at the CME Education Center. The inspection was carried out to verify compliance with the design specifications as outlined in the project drawings. While the majority of the rebar placement met the job specifications for size, spacing and quantity, minor deviations were observed in Section 6 and Section 7 of the hoist way, as detailed below.
Inspection Findings
Section 7: Rebar Size and Quantity
- Drawing Specification: 6 #5 rebar
- Actual Placement: 8 #4 rebar
- Compliance: The deviation in rebar size and quantity was noted and reported to the Site Project Manager.
Section 6: Rebar Clearance
- Drawing Specification: 3 inches of cover
- Actual Measurement: Less than 3 inches in a couple of places
- Recommended Action: Immediate corrective action is advised. The project manager, Angelo, has been informed to direct the contractors to rectify the clearance issue before proceeding with concrete placement.
Conclusions and Recommendations
The rebar placement for the elevator shaft at the CME Education Center largely adheres to the design specifications.
The project manager has been advised to ensure that the contractors make the necessary adjustments to the rebar clearance in Section 6 before the concrete is placed. Failure to do so could result in compromised structural integrity, leading to increased liability and potential safety hazards.
