Observations/Finding
On July 25, 2023, the undersigned ASEC representative was present on the project site as per the request by the client and/or contractor. Using visual observation techniques, the representative evaluated the work-in-place for its adherence to the project plans, specifications, codes, standards, and material submittals. The day’s work was primarily focused on the east shoulder of Pitman Road, as illustrated in the attached drawing.
The contractor’s team removed approximately 17 inches of soil across a 130-foot section on Pitman Road. During the excavation process, Forsyth County engineers were present on-site and raised concerns about the proximity of utilities adjacent to the work area. However, following a comprehensive review, it was decided that the work could continue but utilities companies would be notified to revisit the site at a later date to relocate the utilities, ensuring safety and preventing any possible disruptions.
Subsequently, the contractor laid a 12-foot-wide woven fabric over the exposed subgrade. This was followed by the placement of graded aggregate base (GAB) on top of the fabric in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications.
