Summary

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift: <strong>Summary:</strong> Upon arrival at the job site, operations were halted for three hours due to erosion control issues. Once work resumed, various tasks were undertaken to address the site's needs. These included the installation of an 8-inch green sanitation pipe from manhole 7A10 and the placement and compaction of a 12-inch soil lift extending from Station 13+00 to 15+50, under the future Sterlington Drive roadway. A Komatsu PC360 excavator was employed for the pipe installation, while a Caterpillar CP105 ride-on vibratory sheep's foot compactor was utilized for soil compaction. Notably, compaction testing was conducted using a Troxler 3430 (Serial #30942), based on a moisture-relationship of 94.8 Dry Density (DD) and 25% Moisture (M). <strong>Compaction Testing:</strong> <ul> <li>Test #1, conducted at Station 15+00 at an elevation of -4, yielded a dry density of 90.0 pcfand moisture content of 22%.</li> <li>Test #2, at Station 14+00, recorded a dry density of 95 pcf and moisture content of 20%.</li> <li>Despite these efforts, a recommendation for additional compactive effort was made due to suboptimal results.</li> </ul> Upon retesting: <ul> <li>Retest #1, performed at Station 15+25, showed a dry density of 87.0 pcf and moisture content of 23%. In light of these findings, a proof-roll was conducted, revealing the need for scarification, aeration and recompaction.</li> </ul> <strong>Conclusion:</strong> No further observations were recorded on this day. However, it is imperative to address the identified compaction deficiencies promptly to ensure the integrity and stability of the site, particularly in preparation for future construction activities.
