Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site this day. <ol> <li>This report documents the activities carried out during the installation of sanitation laterals and sewer lines and storm drain at the specified location.</li> <li>Excavation and Placement of Sanitation Laterals: Throughout the day, two sanitation laterals, namely 087-02 and 088-02, located between points 4.4 and 4.5, were excavated and placed. The excavation revealed the use of graded aggregate base (GAB) beneath the future roadway, with lifts approximately 2-2.5 feet in depth. (6-12 inch lifts were recommended)</li> <li>Mainline Sanitation Sewer Placement: The mainline sanitation sewer was installed between points 4.4 and 4.5, utilizing a bedding of 57 stone under Ductile Iron pipe. The installation involved lifts approximately 4 feet in depth. Initially, a trench packer was employed for the first lift, followed by a ride-on vibratory sheepsfoot for the final lift.</li> <li>Meeting with County Inspector: A meeting was conducted with the county inspector to address concerns regarding the lift size and potential low compaction. The inspector subsequently contacted the site superintendent to discuss these matters.</li> <li>Installation of Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP): Between points AH5 and AH6, 24-inch x 8 feet reinforced concrete pipes (RCP) were installed. No stone bedding was utilized during this installation. Gaskets were observed being used, and lifts ranged from 3 to 4 feet in depth. Additionally, the RCP at AH6 was found to have a busted bell housing, which was promptly repaired upon request.</li> <li>Testing and Compaction: Due to the depth or a mix of soils with rock, testing could not be completed on this day. However, it was noted that the lifts compacted on this day probed approximately 6 inches with a 3/8 probe rod. Despite a recommendation to remove soil and use 12-inch lifts, this approach was not followed.</li> <li>Conclusion: The day's activities involved the excavation and placement of sanitation laterals, installation of mainline sanitation sewer, and placement of reinforced concrete pipes. Concerns regarding compaction and lift size were discussed with relevant parties. Further actions may be required to improve compaction.</li> </ol>
