Observations/Finding
Summary
*
The site was visited by the our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today: A request was made to perform footing inspections for four lots (Lot #120 Pod 13; Lot #75 Pod 13; Lot #36 Pod 13; Lot #60 Pod 17) at Suncity. Lot #120 Pod 13:(see photo) Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) first attempt: 1ft- 12 - Red Sandy Silt 2 ft - auger refusal(AR)-Red Sandy silt w/ Rock DCP second attempt: 1 ft - 12 - Red Sandy Silt 2 FT - AR Rock a 3/8 inch probe was used and the Inspection was deemed acceptable. Plastic, wire mesh, and Rebar were installed to specifications. Lot #75 Pod 13:(see photo) DCP performed: 1 ft - 9 - Red Sandy Silt 2 ft - 8 - Red Sandy Silt 3 ft - 10 - Red Sandy Silt 4 ft - 13 - Red Sandy Silt a 3/8 inch probe was used and the Inspection was deemed acceptable. Plastic, wire mesh, and Rebar were installed to specifications. Lot #36 Pod 13 (see multiple photos): DCP performed: (first attempt) 1st foot - 10 - Red Sandy Silt 2nd ft - 11 - Red Sandy Silt 3rd ft - Auger Refusal Second attempt: 1st ft - Auger Refusal A footing bearing pressure of 2,000 psf was achieved; however, there were issues that required remediation. Rebar clearance in footing was not met at the front corner of footing facing road. It was recommended to the onsite sub-contractor that this be shortened (see photo). The measurement spacing of rebar in the turndown wall did not meet requirements. A recommendation was made to add an additional piece of rebar. Some rebar was observed to not be tied. We recommended these areas to be tied to specification. (See photos). Sub-contractor sent photos of corrective action. Probing with a 3/8 rod resulted in 1 to 2 inches of penetration. Lot #60 Pod 17: DCP- first attempt 1 ft - AR - rock. DCP- second attempt 1 ft - 12 - Brown Sandy Silt 2 ft - AR A 3/8 inch probe was used and the Inspection was deemed acceptable. Plastic, wire mesh, and Rebar were installed to specifications.
