Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

• The placement and compaction of fill soils for Lots #240, 242, 243, 212, 215, 216, roadway in the front of Lots #240 and 242, storm water trench backfill for MH A2, to A2.4 to A2.3.1, to A2.4, to A2.4.1, A2.4, to A2.5 and A3 to A4 and also storm water trench backfill between MH B3.2, B3.3 and MH B3.4 and sewer trench between MH SC4 to MH SC5 and MH SC6, continued this day.
• At the time of arrival, our representative observed that work was in progress with 1-foot lifts being placed and compacted using CP56B and 815F and trench compaction equipment.  Compaction testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear density gauge, along with general probing using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod.
• Density test results indicate that most of the compacted materials met the project requirement of 95% of the maximum dry density obtained by a Standard Proctor ASTM 698.  However, several tests did not meet job specifications for compaction and require recompaction and retesting.  The contractor was notified.
