Observations/Finding
At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications. The following observations were made on site this shift:
Our representative observed the contractor use CAT 336 equipment to excavate and transport backfill. A CAT 3314 was used to excavate a trench and lay 160ft sanitary sewer laterals from MH 1.5 – 1.6. A CAT 938K loader was used to transport No. 57 stone and GAB. No. 57 stone was placed up to 6 inches above the sanitary sewer lateral. GAB and backfill was then added from MH 1.5 – 1.6 and compacted using a walk behind roller.
Our representative observed a SY365LC excavator dig a trench from MH 6.9 – 6.11 (205.3 + 34.7+ 32 + 153.2).
Observations:
- Backfilling Activities: Contractors placed backfill in sewer laterals and storm trenches. Also added 6 inches of No. 57 stone, then a GAB.
- Storm Drainpipe Installation: Contractors inserted sewer laterals.
Conclusion: The ongoing backfilling and storm drainpipe installation activities are progressing as planned.
