Observations/Finding

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made on site this shift:

Summary: A concern regarding water and rock encountered during topsoil removal was reported by the on-site foreman, prompting immediate investigation and remediation efforts. Upon arrival at the site, water accumulation was observed between White Tail Lane and River Otter Trail, including Lots #54 to 61 (highlighted as the trouble area in blue). To assess the situation, four test pits were excavated, all of which quickly filled up with water.

Actions Taken:

  1. Consultation with Ram Mogulla (ASEC PE):
    • A call was placed to Ram Mogulla, a Professional Engineer (ASEC PE), to discuss the issue and determine appropriate remediation measures.
  2. On-Site Assessment by Mr. Mogulla:
    • Mr. Mogulla promptly arrived on-site to evaluate the severity of the problem and propose solutions.
  3. Recommendation for Remediation:
    • After careful assessment, a recommendation was made for the implementation of two French drain “burrito wraps” using 57 stone wrapped in geotextile fabric:
      • Each “burrito” wrap to be 2 feet wide and 1 foot in depth.
      • The wraps to run parallel to each other, spaced 20 feet apart.
      • They should intersect the adjacent creek and extend to the end of the project area, aiding in water drainage off the site.
  4. Communication with Foreman and Owner:
    • The recommendation for remediation was communicated to the foreman, who was tasked with discussing it with the owner for further action.
