Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Project Overview: The placement of a storm drain was continued using a 36-inch corrugated pipe, extending from I2 to I3 in a west to east direction.
Equipment Used:
- Jumping Jack: Utilized for compacting approximately 6-inch lifts on the sides of the corrugated pipe.
- Trench Packer: Employed for compacting the first lift (6 inches) on the pipe.
- Komatsu PC 360 Excavator: Utilized for excavation.
Installation Procedure:
- Compaction with Jumping Jack:
- The corrugated pipe was laid in segments.
- A jumping jack was employed to compact the sides of the pipe in approximately 6-inch lifts.
- Initial Lift Compaction:
- The first lift (6 inches) of the pipe was placed.
- Subsequently, a trench packer was used to compact this initial lift.
- Excavation Process:
- Excavation was carried out using a Komatsu PC 360 excavator.
- Bedding Material:
- Notably, no stone bedding was utilized in this installation process.
Conclusion: The placement of the storm drain with the 36-inch corrugated pipe was executed. The utilization of specialized equipment, including jumping jacks, trench packers, and excavators, facilitated installation processes. Despite the absence of stone bedding, the compaction procedures implemented during installation were performed as per job specifications.
