Observations/Finding
As requested, our AS Engerineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the site for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Contractor continued backfilling and compaction for Lots #422, #423, #424, #426 and the roadway.
Upon arrival, work was already in progress with the contractor placing lifts in 16-inch thicknesses.
The soils observed on this date did not appear to be placed in accordance with project specifications as lift thicknesses were too big.
We recommended to the contractor to reduce lift thickness size closer to 8 to 10 inches.
Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759).
Density test results indicate that the compacted material met the job specification of 90% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698).
