Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today
Upon arrival to the site, the writer was informed by the site superintendent Victor that work was underway for the construction of a (approx) 9’ retaining wall on lot 228. The civil plans show plans for a 6’ wall, but Victor explained that it would require 3 additional feet to attain the level required.
A single Takeuchi mini excavator worked in tandem with a Takeuchi skid loader to excavate the retaining wall footing. The writer proceeded to the base of the footing and performed DCP tests along the excavation zone (the total length of the footing was approximately 40ft in length and 2 feet deep) The soil profile was saturated with rock fragments and roots making advancement with a hand-auger impractical. The DCP density test report for this day list the test results for the work performed on this day.
Work was slowed as the construction crew was experiencing mechanical difficulties with the Takeuchi mini excavator.
A geo-grid was brought in to be placed after 3 lifts of backfill and compaction (per Victor) the length was measured by the writer and found to be approximately 10 feet in total length (approx 110% of retaining wall height)
